IX M SAII QUADRILATERALS ASSIGNMENT 1

Prove the followings:
  1. A diagonal of a parallelogram divides it into two congruent triangles. 
  2. In a parallelogram, opposite sides and angle are equal. 
  3. If each pair of opposite sides of quadrilateral is equal, then it is a parallelogram. 
  4. If in a quadrilateral, each pair of opposite angles is equal, then it is a parallelogram. 
  5. The diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other. 
  6. If the diagonals of a quadrilateral bisect each other, then it is a parallelogram. 
  7. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if a pair of opposite sides is equal and parallel. 
  8. The line drawn through the mid-point of one side of a triangle, parallel to another side bisects the third side. 
  9. The line segment joining the mid- points of the two sides of a triangle is parallel to the third side. 
  10. Show that each angle of a rectangle is a right angle. 
  11. Show that the diagonal of a rhombus are perpendicular to each other. 
  12. Show that the bisectors of the angles of a parallelogram form a rectangle. 
  13. ABCD is a parallelogram (||gm) in which P and Q are mid-points of opposite side AB and CD. If AQ intersects DP at S and BQ intersects CO at R, show that
(i) APCQ is ||gm                              (ii)DPBQ is ||gm                             (iii) PSQR is ||gm
  1. In Triangle ABC, D, E and Fare respectively the mid points of sides AB, BC and CA. Show that triangle ABC is divided into four congruent triangle by joining D, E and F

(iii) AD||CF and AD=CF
(iv) Quadrilaterals ACFD is a parallelogram

(vi) Δ ABC ≅ Î” DEF. 
  1. ABCD is a quadrilateral in which P, Q, R and S are mid-points of the sides AB, BC, CD and DA. AC is a diagonal. Show that:
(i) SR||AC and SR =1/2 AC                          (ii) PQ=SR                          (iii) PQRS is a parallelogram.

  3. Show that the line segments joining the mid-points of the opposite sides of a quadrilateral bisect each other. 
  4. ABC is a triangle right angle at C. A line through the mid-points M of hypotenuse AM and parallel to BC intersects AC at D. Show that

(i) D is the mid –point of AC                      (ii) MD AC                      (iii) CM=MA=1/2 AB.

Q1.         Express y  in terms of x , given that 2x -5y =7 .Check whether the point (-3,-2) is on the given                line .
Q2.         Express x in terms of  y , given that 3x +4y =6 . Check whether the point (3,2) is on given line .
Q3.         Express x in terms of y , it is being given that 7x-3y=15. Check  if the line represented by the given equation intersects the y- axis at y=-5.
Q4.         Find the point of intersection of the line represented by the equation  7x+y=-2 with y-axis . Check whether the point (2,1) is a solution of the given equation.
Q5.         A part of monthly expenses of a family on milk is fixed which is Rs.500 and the remaining varies with the quality of milk taken extra the rate of Rs.20 per kg. Taking the quantity of milk required extra as x kg and the total expenditure on milk Rs y. Write a linear equation for this information and draw its graph.
Q6.         When 5 times the larger of the two numbers is divided by the smaller , the quotient and remainder are 2 and 9 respectively . Form a linear equation in two variable  for  above and give its two solutions.
Q7.         Draw the graph of 2x+y =7 . Write the points where line meets x and y-axis.
Q8.         Draw the graph of the equation x -3y =4 . From the graph find the value of x when y=-2.

 a) Write the quadrant in which the line segment intercepted between the axes lie .
b) Shade the triangular region formed by the line and the axes.
c) Write the vertices of the triangle so formed.
Q11.     “ Two years later a father will be 8 years more than three times the age of the son” taking the present age of father and son as x and y respectively . Write a linear equation for above and draw its graph .From the graph ,find the age of the father when the son’s age is 10 years.

For the first kilometer, the fare is Rs.8 and for the subsequent distance it is Rs5.per km .Taking the distance covered as x km. and the total fare as Rs y , write a linear equation for this information and draw its graph.
Q13.     If the work done by a body on application of a constant force is directly proportional to the distance travelled by the body . Express this in the form of an equation  in two variables and draw the graph of the same by taking the constant force as 5 units .Also read from the graph the work done when the distance travelled by the body is (a) 2 units (b) 0 unit.
